About Val Allen, LICSW

Valerie Allen, LICSW, is a depth-oriented psychotherapist whose work resides at the confluence of soul, psyche, suffering, and transformation. Her clinical and spiritual orientation draws from Jungian psychology, existential humanism, Buddhist philosophy, dream work, and trauma-informed somatic practice. With nearly two decades of immersion in the healing arts—both scholarly and deeply personal—Val brings a rare synthesis to her work: clinical rigor paired with spiritual depth; challenge held in compassion; shadow embraced as sacred.

Her entrance into this field was seeded early. As a teenager, she encountered Jungian theory and dream work, and something in her recognized itself. She became fascinated—then devoted—to the idea that the psyche speaks in symbol, image, and mythic pattern. That dreams are not disorders of the brain, but messages of the soul. That suffering, when tended rather than exiled, may be doorway rather than defect.

Her professional path unfolded alongside her own healing. Val’s recovery from depression, trauma, and addiction did not merely lead her to psychotherapy—it shaped her into the kind of therapist for whom recovery is not a return to “before,” but a movement toward depth, integrity, and awakening. This lived experience is inseparable from her clinical presence; she knows the terrain of pain from the inside and understands transformation not as concept but initiation.

Valerie holds an LICSW and is trained in EMDR, dream work, Buddhist meditation instruction, and contemplative practices for trauma integration. Her style is both exacting and soulful—she holds high clinical standards while refusing to sacrifice depth, imagination, or mystery in favor of convenience or convention.

Her therapeutic stance is guided by the belief that every emotion, even the most unwanted, carries intelligence and intent. Rather than pathologizing symptoms, she invites clients to coexist with them, to listen, and to repurpose rather than repress. When we cease treating parts of ourselves as enemies, she teaches, we find meaning in suffering, purpose in chaos, and connection where there once was fracture. In this work, what we once labeled broken often becomes the source of our greatest strength.

Valerie’s clinical focus includes:

  • Existential crisis, identity loss, and spiritual emergency
  • Trauma resolution and somatic integration
  • Reconnection after dislocation, fragmentation, and alienation
  • Psychedelic integration and non-ordinary states of consciousness
  • Dream work, active imagination, and symbolic processing
  • Clients disillusioned by or harmed within traditional treatment
  • Addiction and recovery through the lens of meaning and belonging

Her approach is strongly informed by dislocation theory, which understands psychological suffering as a consequence of rupture: rupture from self, community, ancestry, spirit, and meaning. Valerie views recovery as remembrance—the slow re-weaving of belonging, the reclamation of the lost or exiled parts of the soul. This orientation aligns deeply with both Buddhist teachings on separation and craving and Jungian ideas of alienation from the Self. Transformation occurs not through compliance or symptom elimination, but through deep encounter—with shadow, with longing, with psyche, with the unknown.
